4 Tips on Eliminating Procrastination Habits
Mar 12, 2025
Procrastination can be a pain. But as an individual, what you’re probably not aware of is that everyone does it. It seems like it is embedded into who we are as human beings.
Since you feel like you just can’t shake off your procrastination habits, you become more and more frustrated, but the more stressed you feel about it, the more you procrastinate. Before you know it, this has become a vicious cycle that you don’t know how to get out of.
Well, thankfully, you’ve come to the right place. Before you start going through the steps, you need to know one thing – you are not lazy, you just haven’t found the right ways to get rid of your procrastination habits.
You can easily break free from it – and here is how:
- Find Out You’re Procrastinating
Yes, as strange as this sounds, the first thing you need to discover is why your procrastination habits actually exist.
Deep down, you already know the answer to this. What seems like a seemingly easy and maybe slightly tedious task is postponed for weeks. Why do you do this? Are you frightened that you may fail at this task if you begin? Do you maybe feel overwhelmed by it? Or maybe it is so boring that it doesn’t give you any motivation at all, so that’s why you don’t complete it?
No matter what the case is, you need to be clear on the why - that’s the first step to start procrastinating.
2. Set A Starting Point
Once you discover the root of your procrastination habits, the next item on the list is to set a starting point.
If this task needs to be completed by, let's say, the end of the day, do the first thing you would normally do to complete it.
If you need to work out, then take out your mat and your sneakers. If you need to finish going through a certain document, open the document, etc.
3. Have A Blank List
Probably one of the most powerful ways to overcome procrastination is to always have a blank list beside you. This way, you will not only know what you need to do during the day, but you will have a very good way of managing yourself as well.
For instance, a checklist may feel intimidating, like you have an endless list of things to do – that is why you need to have a blank list. It doesn’t create the pressure of having things to do (and makes you want to avoid doing everything), but it is something where you can write down all the things you have already done.
Start small – one or two things per day is enough to start avoiding procrastination.
4. Give Yourself A Break
Things can seem pretty overwhelming either way. That is why it is important to forgive yourself if you slip and procrastinate over a certain task.
After all, you are human, you will make mistakes – but now, you know how to deal with them more healthily.
At the end of the day, overcoming your procrastination habits all comes down to learning how to organize yourself. If you’re interested in making that happen, I suggest you download my free Organizing & Prioritizing Checklist. It will make things a lot easier for you!
