How to Declutter Your Life: Spring Cleaning for Your Mind

One of the many things I love about spring is the essence of renewal. With nature awakening from its slumber, spring poses the perfect time to declutter your mind and organize your life.

If you’ve been feeling stressed and disorganized, with your thoughts running all over the place, it may be because your mind is full of clutter. With that said, an “inner” spring cleaning sounds like a perfect idea, bringing you back to your old thriving self.

If you don’t know where to start, these decluttering tips will surely help.

Remove Distractions & Clear Your Environment

Before you declutter your mind, you should take a good look at your living spaces and the environment where you spend most of your time. In some cases, the reason why your thoughts may be all over the place is because you have too many distractions around you, making you quite distracted in the long run.

For starters, clear out your desk or the place where you usually work – anything unnecessary goes into storage. Naturally, don’t forget about your digital space. Get your computer organized and get rid of those bothersome notifications. Once everything’s clean and clear, you’ll see how easier it is to be more decisive.

Remember – a clear mind comes from a clear space!

Dump Your Thoughts Out

After having your environment cleaned out, it’s time to declutter your mind. I know how hard it can be to stay focused with all those thoughts swirling around. However, the reason the reason for that may be because they’re “stuck”. So, let’s get them out!

Grab a pen and paper, and write down anything that comes to mind. This can be about tasks you have to complete, your goals, or the feelings you may experience – anything goes! Also, don’t worry about the order, you’ll take care of that later.

Once everything is written down, sort it by priority. Jump on the tasks that can be done in a matter of minutes and start crossing them out after they’re done. You won’t believe the achievement you’ll feel! Anything that’s left goes into your calendar for later, but try not to cramp too many activities in a tight period – space them out as much as possible.

Talk!

For some, clearing mental clutter means talking – a lot of it! This especially goes for extroverts who love to spend time with people and share their thoughts.

If you want to declutter your mind, call up a close friend or relative and invite them for a talking session. Of course, this shouldn’t feel like a trauma dump, but rather a conversation where you’ll both get to express your feelings and thoughts freely without judgment. Hearing different opinions will help you clear mental clutter, and bring you back to center. Bonus points if you spend time in nature!

These are just a few ways you can declutter your mind as part of your spring cleaning. When your mind starts to feel too chatty, just turn to activities that help you focus. With a clear mind, there’s nothing you can’t achieve.
