Due to the rise of modern technology, today’s world is all about Artificial Intelligence and how it can help make our lives easier. Unfortunately, along the road, we’ve strayed off from something that truly matters – emotional intelligence.
Emotional intelligence is more than just understanding our emotions – it’s about how you use it in your everyday life. Having high emotional intelligence habits can benefit self-awareness, improved communication, stronger relationships, and also personal boundaries. Whenever you’re faced with hardships in your personal or work life, your emotional intelligence dictates how you respond to them.
Still, not everyone has well-developed emotional intelligence habits. If you’re one of them, there’s no need for you to feel discouraged about it. On the contrary, this is a skill that is developed over time and you can actively work on it.

2. Practice Open Communication
Are you afraid of speaking your mind simply because you’ll hurt someone, even though you’re not being completely true to yourself? If you’re repressing yourself, you won’t be able to set healthy boundaries.
Being able to communicate clearly is a sign of high emotional intelligence. Instead of constantly apologizing and over-explaining your needs, learn how to communicate them clearly.
For instance, if someone’s asking you for help and you really don’t have the time for it, don’t come up with any excuses. On the contrary, decline politely and say that you have to respect your own time. I know this may be difficult at first for some people, but once you get the hang of it, you’ll see how this emotional intelligence habit will start benefiting your relationships with other people.
3. Address Emotional Triggers Proactively
Of course, there are situations that will make you feel like you will explode. These are generally known as emotional triggers. But instead of making yourself go boom, why not learn how to address them correctly?
Understanding emotional triggers is another emotional intelligence habit that will help you prepare healthier responses. Before reacting impulsively, take the time to create a response that will ultimately benefit your benefits, not let them crumble in the heat of the moment. As always, you can always count to 10 to give yourself some time to relax, and then respond appropriately.
Developing emotional intelligence habits is key to building boundaries that are in line with your needs. By being emotionally literate, you create space for a more empowered you.
