Don't Assume That Self-Care Is Selfish!

"Taking Care Of Yourself Is Not Selfish. It's A Necessity. If You Don't Take Care Of Yourself, You Won't Be Able To Take Care Of Anyone Else." - Unknown

The way we think about self-care can have a big impact on whether or not we actually do it. If we see self-care as selfish, we’re much less likely to do it.🀷‍♀️

But self-care is not selfish!

In fact, it’s essential to our wellbeing.πŸ₯°

Self-care is any activity that we do deliberately in order to take care of our physical, mental or emotional health.

It can be as simple as taking a break when we’re feeling overwhelmed, or as complex as managing a chronic health condition.

But no matter what form it takes, self-care is always a deliberate choice to do something that will benefit us.

There are a lot of misconceptions about self-care.πŸ˜“

Some people think it’s selfish, or that it’s only for people with mental health issues.

But self-care is for everyone!πŸ€—

We all need to take care of ourselves, both physically and emotionally.

One of the biggest barriers to self-care is the belief that it’s selfish.

We live in a culture that prizes productivity and self-sacrifice.

We’re taught that taking care of ourselves is selfish and that we should always put others first.

But self-care is not selfish.❀️

In fact, it’s the opposite of selfish.

When we take care of ourselves, we’re able to be our best selves and to be there for others.

We can’t pour from an empty cup.

When we don’t take care of ourselves, we’re more likely to get sick, to be emotionally unavailable and to burn out.

Self-care is essential to our wellbeing.

It’s not selfish, it’s not indulgent, and it’s not a luxury.

It’s a necessity.🫢

I know you can definitely relate to this.

Maybe you feel paralyzed and hopeless.😬

Maybe your spouse isn’t supportive at all and thinks you baby the children and now their adults and you're still taking care of them.

I bet this causes a ton of friction in your household.

To top it off, your spouse and kids are around a lot and you don’t really have much privacy.

You may even have aging parents at home.

It’s possible that you’re looking at your life and wondering where all the time went.

Your kids are grown up and you probably don’t feel very connected to your spouse or even your children, at times.

You may even wonder if any of them really appreciate you.

Yet, you still feel like you should help your kids because you don’t like seeing them get hurt and you want a better life for them.

I bet you tend to be busy and distract yourself hoping that your problems will just work themselves out or better yet, just go away.

Possibly, some of your family members aren’t in the greatest health and are suffering and challenging to be around.

But I bet you too are hurting.❀️‍🩹

Emotionally you may feel drained and close to burnout.

Financially you’ve been probably doing ok up to this point but with the economy the way it is you’re starting to feel a bit worried about your finances.

Physically you might even feel tight and stiff and have pain in spots that you didn’t even know existed!

You're now wanting some help.

I hear you and get it.πŸ™‚

You’ve been my muse and I’m very excited to announce something I’ve been working on that I think you are gonna love.
