That day had to be the beginning of 2022.

For my whole life, it’s always been about focusing on my body.

In the 80s it was all about being the skinniest and prettiest.

I would emotionally binge eat, then purge immediately afterward with hopes that every ounce of evidence would come off my body.

I yearned for more simplicity and purpose in my life.

I LOVED hanging out with my attractive friends.

It was almost like when we entered the room all eyes would look at us and if they didn’t stare, well, there was something wrong with them.

My friends and I would all talk about how we are the hottest and most important women in the room and we can get whoever we want.

Never mind the utter joy we felt when we would gossip and put other girls down (especially the ones that had the guys we wanted!)

And the soap operas (daytime and nighttime) that we obsessed over, well, don’t get me started.

I always felt empty inside but I didn’t know how to stop.

Fast forward after a very painful few years of depression and drug abuse.

I met the love of my life  …. It was the late 90s

He loved me inside and out,

Still, I was obsessing over beauty and keeping myself as thin as possible.

My boyfriend at the time (now my husband), had never smoked and I have been smoking for about 5 years.

I binge ate and then purged afterward for a few years off and on into our relationship.

Even though I was in love with him, these anxieties didn’t vanish.

I eventually stopped smoking, binge eating, and purging.

Fast forward to a few years ago when I saw my mom almost die, time after time.

She always was putting my dad and me first.

Not taking care of herself.

She never ate healthfully.

My mom was definitely struggling with depression and had her own vices.

Then in 2019, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor.

She got surgery a few months later and honestly,  she was never the same.

Then in mid-2021, my mom passed away.

Leaving such a void in my heart.

She was my first best friend growing up yet so much has happened between us through the years.

I’ve always thought that if she took better care of herself and practiced self-care she would’ve lived longer.

Through the years, I would beg my mom to take care of herself and she would always brush me off and say “I’m fine”.

She would abruptly change the subject to how I’m doing and reassure me not to worry.

I always felt so helpless as the daughter.

Then I realized that I’m no model self-care person!

Realizing that I too should take better care of myself.

That day had to be at the beginning of this year after I lost one of my closest friends from college in December 2021.

I was absolutely devastated by Kristy dying so young, rapidly and unexpectedly.

I believe that once the new year hit, I was doing a ton of soul searching.

I realized that life is very short and fragile.

I know that this is all taking its toll on me and that I need to get myself in a better frame of mind.

This is when I decided that take care of my mental health and soul.

That they both are just as (or maybe even more) important than focusing on my physical health.

I now regularly see a therapist (who I love!) and listen to the calm.app every day to help with my mental health.

This has made such a huge impact on my soul.

I now have so much clarity on what my soul's purpose is.

I’m so excited to be at the place of my life where I can share and give.
